The State Issues Forum (SIF) is a membership organization that works with state legislators and advocates advancing progressive policies at the state level. Founded in 1982 by the Center for Policy Alternatives, SIF serves as the official representative of nonprofit policy and advocacy groups to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). SIF organizations receive the following benefits as part of their membership dues:
- Opportunity to participate in NCSL Executive Committee meetings
- Opportunity to serve as liaison to NCSL issue committees; access to committee agendas through SIF staff
- Orientation to participating in NCSL activities
- Exhibition space at the SIF exhibit booth at NCSL's Annual Conference
- Discount admission to CPA's Summit on the States and regional forums
- Discount on exhibition space at CPA's Summit on the States
- Opportunity to organize and participate in SIF workshops held at NCSL's Annual Conference
- Co-sponsor SIF Reception at NCSL's Annual Conference
- Opportunity to contribute to CPA's annual state policy handbook, the Progressive Agenda (hard copy and/or web version)
- Two complimentary copies of CPA's Progressive Agenda
- Opportunity to serve on SIF steering committee and subcommittees
- Advertise job openings on the SIF listserv
- Receive a directory of SIF members
